Sailing the ICW New Point Comfort Natural Area Preserve
On our second day at New Point Comfort Natural Area Preserve, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work! I settled into my remote work on my laptop, while Chris tended to the boat's maintenance. Though we contemplated a return to our marina to seek out a welder for our davits and to install a heater, the promise of warm days ahead inspired us to press on at first light.
After clocking out, we jumped into the dinghy, and I brought my camera along for a little shore adventure. Photography serves as a wonderful creative outlet for me, allowing me to decompress after a long day. Meandering along the shoreline, I passed the iconic New Point Comfort Lighthouse and spotted a sanderling and a ruddy turnstone doing a little dance along the water's edge. To my surprise, a small flock of dunlins was huddled nearby, seeking warmth and a moment of rest. Meanwhile, the sanderlings scoured for morsels, playfully flapping their wings as waves splashed upon them—a scene both endearing and amusing.
As we made our way back to the dinghy, we beheld the sun setting in a fiery display of red hues. Chris remarked that it resembled the sunset from the film "The Karate Kid." In the sequel, Mr. Miyagi imparts the wisdom to repeat, "The sun is warm, the grass is green," a gentle reminder to embrace gratitude and connect with the present moment—a mindset perfectly suited for the life of a sailor.
